The hot fuss surrounding Crookers is about to reach fever pitch. Already the hippest act in dance circles they will soon unleash their debut album on the world and things are expected to go mad for the two men from Milan. Their remix of Kid Cudi’s Day ‘n’ Night reached number two in the UK earlier this year and is now riding high on the US Airplay charts. This, and their already huge body of work, has attracted the attention of Kanye West and Will I Am who have become fans and collaborators. Dolce & Gabbana recently used their U2 remix for the catwalk and their MySpace page is getting more traffic than Coldplay. Like we said, Crookers are about to go boom!

After remixing such huge names in pop and rock Crookers have now gone direct to some of their favourite artists to work alongside on their debut album. Aptly titled Tons Of Friends the roll call of pals involved is jaw dropping. It includes, Kelis, Soulwax,Major lazer, RadioClit, Spank Rock, Pitbull, Tim Burgess, Kardinal official and Roisin Murphy. The tracks have been worked on in various studios around Europe or ideas have been developed through i-chat and e-mail. “Will I am was great to work with, he’s constantly searching for new sounds. He was full of energy in the studio, bouncing ideas around all the time.” “Roisin was amazing, she wrote to a beat in the studio and recorded her song in one day. So did Spank Rock, just heard the beat and then wrote and recorded that same night”

In Ibiza last year they met Chas Smash of Madness, an unlikely alliance seeing as the group are so quintessentially English. “When we realised he was ‘the heavy, heavy monster sound’ guy, we wanted to work on an updated version of this track we loved (One Step Beyond).” Also expect feisty performances from Kelis and Roisin Murphy, “Kelis is about making the party blow up and Roisin is singing about not being taken for a sucker.” There’s also a collaboration between the daddies of this scene as Crookers hook up with Diplo and Switch for a track called Jump Up. All ears will be on that one from the three heavyweight pioneers of bastard basslines.

So watch out this summer as Crookers retain their status as dons of the dancefloor but further their audience with their mutant take on R&B and pop. They already have tons of friends but by the end of the year they’ll have a whole load more.

www.crookers.net

“Put Your Hands On Me” is released on Monday March 15th on CD and Digital on Liberator Music in Australia.

This is one of the most dynamic LIVE shows that I have seen in recent times, Firstly there are no turntables or CDJ’s to be seen, instead, Bob and Tommy conduct there crazy circle pit worshipers from behind a island of Synthesizers, guitars, efx and dynamic vocal performances…but there’s more, the addition of one of the craziest drummer I have ever seen, which completes this orchestra of madness.

Bloody Beetroots Death Crew 77 play at Creamfields in May 2010. Dont Miss it!

Their debut album Acolyte is a scintillating blend of classic Factory indie dance with the kind of resonant techno sheen that would have been impossible in the legendary label’s heyday.
‘BAD LOVE’ RELEASE DATE (1ST SINGLE): 19TH APRIL 2010

Unreleased track ‘Regenerate’ from the new album More! is available now on www.bookashade.com

Booka Shade will release their fourth artist album More! this May in a joint venture between Get Physical Music and Co-Op.

“The album is called More!. More refined production, more multi-layered atmospheres, more emotion.” Explains Arno Kammermeier. “We wanted this album to be more energetic with strong grooves and of course the typical Booka Shade melodies and atmospheres that we love. The album takes you through every stage of the night out; the excitement before you go out, the party, the late, late night, a bit of paranoia…. and then the sunny morning of a new day.”

Across the album, Arno and Walter Merziger delve deeper than ever before, delivering what has to be their most dynamic and accomplished album to date, which is saying something for Booka Shade! For the first time on any of their albums they’ve collaborated with guest vocalists, sharing the limelight with electronic pioneers Yello and Get Physical favourite Chelonis R. Jones.

“We’re so excited about 2010 and taking the new album on the road. We’ve been working on these songs in the studio for the last 18 months and now is the time to hear them loud!” Arno continues, “The world tour will start in February with us headlining the Future Music Festival in Australia, followed by club shows in key cities throughout Europe and a short trip to the U.S. to introduce the album Stateside. I can safely say we have a big summer of festivals in front of us too!”.

Indeed they do, with the full live schedule to be announced very soon, including (for the first time ever) a fully live UK tour, taking in all the major cities across the country (see below for a preview of confirmed dates). Until then, please log on to Booka Shade’s website to download Regenerate, one of the stand-out tracks from the album that will not only delight fans but also give the world a clear sign of what’s to come with More!

What’s it all about?

This is the debut album from much hyped Italian house producer, Stefano Miele, AKA Riva Starr. After a string of attention-grabbing releases and remixes for the likes of Fatboy Slim and the Gossip, 2010 is poised to be the year Riva Starr really makes his name.

As an example…
“Yesterday I was drunk, with some chicks in the club/I don’t remember who came back with me/And tonight I will drink, with some chicks in the club, I’m not sure I want to, ooh la la la.”

So is it any good?
Riva Starr is seriously hot property right now, snapped up by Jesse Rose’s Made to Play label – after previous releases on Claude VonStroke’s Dirty Bird imprint and Fatboy Slim’s Southern Fried – he has a six-month waiting list for club appearances and was the talk of the blogosphere last year.

The amusingly-titled If Life Gives You Lemons, Make Lemonade is based around of his chunky, Balkan/Mezcla house sound, and is full of the macho Italian swagger you would expect from someone on such a sharp career trajectory; typified by the Noze co-produced lead single I Was Drunk (lyrics above).

Maybe it has something to do with his ten-year career producing under different guises, or his talent for remixing other people’s work, but the one thing that becomes very clear listening to this album is that he’s not very original. The album is littered with fairly explicit references to his influences: from becoming the ninth producer to pillage the classic horn sample on Lafayette Afro Rock Band’s Darkest Night in his homage to 80s electro, Black Mama, to the verbatim use of Ramiez’s Hablando riff on Caballeros, or the re-interpretation of Mr Fingers Chicago house masterpiece, Can You Feel It, for Tribute. The trouble is, like any good parody, he clearly has a deep devotion to the subject matter, and as a result many of the rip-offs sound better than the originals.

Apparently he calls this mimicking style ’snatch’ – also the name of his forthcoming record label – with the album supposed to represent the variety of his musical taste and DJ sets. So whilst he may be something of a musical impersonator, he has managed to successfully combine the best elements of catchy commercial dance with the production detail and depth of more respected underground producers. And in doing so he has created a varied collection of club tools that puts him right up amongst the best of his peers..

Just to be clear: The Bloody Beetroots are a duo when they play live, but it’s actually one person who makes the music. And that person is Bob Rifo, also credited as Sir Bob Cornelius Rifo. But that’s not his only alias. As Bobermann he makes remixes for other dj’s that are different from the ones he makes for The Bloody Beetroots.

This story starts in 2006. The Belgian electroband Goose release their album ‘Bring it on’. It was their first album and it was an important one. They had to prove something, as they won the Humo’s Rock Rally, one of Belgium most important music competitions, in 2002. ‘Bring it on’ was a Belgian chart success, followed by a performance on Rock Werchter 2007. Although all tracks were brilliant, they begged for a remix. The Bloody Beetroots remixed two tracks of them. The instrumental track ‘Black Gloves’, which has vocals on the remix and ‘Everybody’. Both tracks can be found on the album ‘Bring It On (Rarities and Remixes)’, available on iTunes.

And then there was Sound of Stereo. The Belgian dj-duo emerged in 2009, with gigs all over the world. Their EP ‘Heads Up’ became a big success and featured remixes from Mightyfools and others. But the biggest remix was the one from The Bloody Beetroots. ‘Heads Up (The Bloody Beetroots Remix) was featured on Solid Sounds 2009 – Volume 1, one of Belgians most important dance compilations. Sound of Stereo is a duo, consisting of Jochen Sablon and Vincent De Boeck. According to their Facebook fanpage, they play Fidget, House, Crunk and Dubstep. That same Jochen Sablon is an important contributor to ‘Romborama’. He co-wrote ‘Better DJ on 2 Turntables’, the 6th track on the album, alongside Bob Rifo himself.

Bob Rifo has more than one alias. As Bobermann he remixed ‘Death Suite’, the result of an anticipated collaboration between Erol Alkan and Boys Noize. That remix could be downloaded for free from different websites. Later on Bobermann remixed the track ‘Drummer’ by Boys Noize. Recently Bobermann presented his newest remix ‘Mitsubitchi’, a track by another Belgian electroband The Subs. A remix he was very proud since he posted it on his website, www.deathcrew77.com. Yes, here are the Belgians again. The Subs, originating from Ghent, released their first album in 2008. The singles ‘Kiss My Trance’ and ‘Music Is The New Religion’ were a chart success, although their music videos might have something to do with that. NME gave them a 8 out of 10 rating, pretty high for a relatively unknown Belgian band.

The Bloody Beetroots already played a lot of important Belgian dance events. They played the influential Pukkelpop festival two times in a row, in 2008 and 2009. The dancehall was packed in 2009, the crowd went crazy. It was a much talked about gig afterwards. Belgium is famous for the ‘I Love Techno’ festival, taking place in November. The Bloody Beetroots played a dj-set in 2008 and 2009. At that time, the music video for ‘Warp 1.9’ was played on high rotation on the popular radio and television stations. ‘Woop Woop’ became a common shout-out at parties.

Just signed! Swiss dynamic duo Round Table Knights’ Calypso EP, It’s out 15th February on Jesse Rose’s Made to Play Label and out on Onelove Recordings in Australia.

The Round Table Knights are a Swiss DJ / Producer duo consisting of DJ Questionmark and DJ Atomik. It‘s been a ten year journey from the Swiss province to the high plateaus of contemporary dance music where they have recently pitched their tents in the camp of Jesse Rose’s ‚ Made To Play‘

If you had to chose one single word to characterise them it could only be diversity. The RTK play all kinds of Electronic/ Accoustic/ Futuristic/ Exciting/ Romantic/ Intense music. Their musical horizon kept them behind the decks in clubs and at festivals all over Europe. “It’s all about the mix” they say.

“Round Table Knights have impressed me loads this year, not only playing the best house sets of 2009 but coming with some really original productions as well”
— Jesse Rose
